Yahoo Lifestyle It's True! 'Virgin River' Announces It Was Renewed for Season 6
Virgin River fans, we have some updates for you that are the very definition of the term "bittersweet."
On the one hand, we just the good news that the Netflix show was given the green light for season 6, according to Deadline. 🙌 (More on that in just a second.) On the other hand, season 5 hasn't even premiered yet! And after waiting for what seems like forever (okay, it's been less than a year), we finally have an update: Virgin River season 5 will premiere sometime in the fall of this year. So, if you were anticipating a summer drop, you'll have to nourish your patience some more.
Since we haven't gotten the opportunity to dive into season 5 yet, there are still so many unanswered questions regarding the show's plot and a hot pot of theories brewing. That said, it's hard to even wrap our heads around season 6 and anything it'll entail. But fear not, we're here to organize a few things and let you know more or less what you can expect with Virgin River season 6, including casting updates, premiere dates, and more.
When will Virgin River season 6 premiere?
There's no clear answer to this right now. Considering that we will not have season 5 until the fall of 2023 and the WGA writer's strike is still ongoing, we likely have a while before we can even think about this.
However, Annette O'Toole posted to Instagram recently, giving fans an update of her own. (We love when cast members post on social media!) After Netflix unveiled the Virgin River season 5 and season 6 news, Annette posted a photo of flowers to her account with the following caption: "Some roses to celebrate the good news: #VirginRiver season 5 will air in the fall and we’re going to film season 6 as soon as the strike is settled. #WGAStrong!"
Though we don't know when the writer's strike will be settled, we at least know that the cast seems ready for whenever that might be!
What will Virgin River season 6 be about?
An official plot has not been confirmed at this time. As mentioned before, we still have some loose ends to tie up that date back to season 4! However, the Netflix series is based on the book series of the same name by Robyn Carr. So if you've read the books, you may have a better idea of the general direction.
Plus, given Virgin River's success, the storyline could develop into something entirely new come season 6! “I think we definitely see more longevity and growth with the show,” Jinny Howe, head of drama series development and content acquisition at Netflix told Deadline back in August of 2022. “As long as the audience asks for it and shows up — and I think we see with Season 4 that the fandom is very strong and growing in many places as well — it feels like based on what we’re seeing with Season 4 and the anticipation for Season 5 that there is a lot more storytelling to offer us."
Knowing there is potentially a lot more Virgin River in our future just makes our hearts so happy!
Who will be in the cast of Virgin River season 6?
The cast of Virgin River has remained pretty consistent throughout its run thus far. So, we're hoping that this remains the same for season 6 and beyond! The cast of the series includes Alexandra Breckenridge, Martin Henderson, Annette O’Toole, Colin Lawrence, Benjamin Hollingsworth, Lauren Hammersley, Grayson Gurnsey, Sarah Dugdale, Zibby Allen, Marco Grazzini, Tim Matheson, and Chase Petriw.
