'True Detective' Fans Call the New Season 4 Trailer "Utterly Terrifying"

After a much-anticipated, nearly five-year wait, True Detective is returning to HBO. The anthology crime series aired its last episode in 2019, wrapping up season 3, which was set in the Ozarks of Arkansas. The newest season is heading north, with the plot unfolding in Ennis, Alaska—a town that experiences the polar night (AKA an uninterrupted months-long period of darkness).

The official logline for the season states, “When the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, the eight men who operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace. To solve the case, Detectives Liz Danvers (played by two-time Oscar-winner Jodie Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Kali Reis) will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves, and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice.”

HBO shared the latest teaser on their Instagram feed and one fan said, "How utterly terrifying and yet intriguing. I'm so going to watch THIS🔥👏"

As always, in addition to the location and plot changing, the cast of True Detective season 4 is new, too. Below, uncover who’s starring in Night Country.

True Detective: Night Country Cast

According to Deadline, the True Detective: Night Country cast and character descriptions are as follows.

• Jodie Foster - Detective Liz Danvers

• Kali Reis - Detective Evangeline Navarro

• John Hawkes - Hank Prior, a police officer with old grudges hiding under a quiet surface.

• Christopher Eccleston - Ted Corsaro, the regional Chief of Police and a political animal with a long history tying him to Liz Danvers.

• Fiona Shaw - Rose Aguineau, a survivalist with a past full of secrets.

• Finn Bennett - Peter Prior, Liz Danvers' protégé and apprentice — both for better or worse.

• Anna Lambe - Kayla Malee, a young nurse with little patience for anybody that messes with her family.

According to Variety, three additional cast members were added to the show, as well. They are as follows.

• Aka Niviâna - Julia, Navarro's sister, a woman battling demons both in her history and in her mind.

• Isabella Star Lablanc - Leah, Danvers' stepdaughter, a young woman fighting for her voice and her identity.

• Joel D. Montgrand - Eddie Qavvik, Navarro's love interest. He's a local musher with connections that run deep in Ennis.
