Truck veers off road, down embankment and into Evan Turner's pool
There was a pretty dramatic scene at the home of Portland Trail Blazers guard Evan Turner on Wednesday.
According to multiple outlets, a dump truck hauling dirt in Southwest Portland drove off the road and tumbled down an embankment into Turner’s pool. Emergency responders were able to rescue the driver from the truck, which lost control coming around a hairpin turn, reportedly after Turner’s chef “propped the driver’s head above water for 10 minutes.”

The driver was hauling a dumpster around a hairpin curve on SW Upper Hall Street when he crashed through shrubbery and into the NBA player’s pool.
While they awaited help from first responders, Turner’s chef propped the driver’s head above the water for 10 minutes before help arrived. The driver’s leg was pinned between the steering column and center console, and it took another 10 or so minutes to extricate him.
According to The Oregonian, at least eight people were involved in rescuing the driver and a “jaws of life” tool was used to lift the steering column pinning him inside the truck and partially under water.
The driver’s injuries were deemed serious but not life-threatening.
Through the team, Turner released the following statement:
“I wasn’t aware that the driver was injured or how badly. But I’m obviously grateful that the first responders were able to rescue him and I hope and pray he’ll be fine.”
Turner is in his second season with Portland after signing a four-year, $70 million contract as a free agent in 2016. The Blazers (16-14) host the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night.
Turner is averaging 7.7 points in 26.7 minutes per game.
