A Tropical Destination Wedding at Ak'iin Beach Club in Tulum

If we could get an invite to any wedding on SMP - this tropical destination wedding in Tulum captured by Magdalena Studios would be reallyyy high on our list! The bride and groom said “I do” with their toes in the sand in front of a round floral arbor by Pentaflor Event & Flower Design and crystal clear ocean waves. The blushing bride donned a pretty two-piece dress while her bridesmaids stunned in unique maxis of various warm hues. What followed was a cocktail hour filled with decadent displays of coconuts, pineapples, a tiki bar, live music and a reception that is just too perfect to put into words. Welcome to wedding paradise!

From Magdalena Studios... Searching for destination wedding inspiration from a couple who did it perfectly? Look no further than Claudia & Richard! This Tulum wedding was one for the books with no detail left behind! Stunning earthy greens and ocean blues surrounded the couple as they tied the knot on a white sand beach under a tropical arbor arch! After the “I do’s,” the newlyweds and their guests celebrated as the sun set to live music, with dinner tables designed to perfection and a choice of coconut or tiki bar (or both)! We want to relive this day over and over!

From the Bride... We met online while Claudia was living in NYC and Richard was living in Tulum, Mexico. Richard claimed on his profile that he spent “several months a year” living in NYC, which only became true AFTER they started long-distance dating. After weeks of e-mailing and one Skype date, Richard bought a ticket to New York for their first in-person date. The date went well, and they have been together ever since!

The family-owned wedding venue made everything extra special and personalized. We were very familiar with the space, personally know the wedding planner and many of the staff, and we were even able to have our beloved rescue pup Taco roam free during the event. The wedding was a blend of Mexican and American sensibilities and customs to honor our backgrounds, our guests, and the location. We chose a ‘natural luxury’ theme to let the beauty of the venue shine, the handblown glass, bejuco (wicker) decorative globes and hanging lamps, local copal incense, mezcal for toasting, menu, drinks, plate chargers, table decorations and foliage all made locally or from Mexico.

Midnight snack of empanadas in both Argentine and Mexican styles also nod to bride and groom’s backgrounds. Our favorite wedding moment was having our son Adrian be the ring bearer and walk down the aisle with Richard/groom’s former nanny Celia. Tips to other couples planning their day: Sending paper save-the-dates and invitations but having people RSVP online was a good mix of traditional and convenient. E-mailing guests a Google photos link for people to upload their casual shots was also a fun way to share images with everyone.
