Trollhaugen Says "See You Later" for the 2023-24 Season
On Sunday, March 17th, beloved Midwest resort, Trollhaugen, closed for the 2023-24 season. While this closing date isn't unusual for Trollhaugen, a resort that typically ends its winter season between mid-March and mid-April, depending on conditions, it's always sad to see the rope tow shut down for summer.
Trollhaugen is home to Valhalla, one of the snowboarding's most renowned and beloved terrain parks and a breeding ground for the best rail riders. While Troll's parks are a home for many of the Midwest's finest, including Benny Milam, Ethan Deiss, Matt "Boody" Boudreaux, Tommy Gesme, Danimals, Joe Sexton, Lex Hernandez-Roland, and many more (let's not forget @_lilm0ney), in the past few years, it has become the early season training spot for riders of all stripes.
As soon as Valhalla opened at the end of November last year, the rope was filled with riders from all over looking to hot lap Troll's set up. Zoi Sadowski-Synnot and the New Zealand snowboard team, Grace Warner, Zeb Powell, Jordan Morse, Riley Nickerson, Finn Westbury, Kennedi Deck, Emm Crosby, Laura Rogoski, the Escape Crew including Gian Sutter and Sebbe Springeth, Holden Barth, Max Tokunaga, Mateo Soltane, Julia Marino, and more were in Dresser, Wisconsin to ride Troll, a showing of how much snowboarding loves this resort.
This winter had drastic swings in temperature in the Midwest, challenging Trollhaugen's operations crew, but the resort persevered, utilizing its state-of-the-art TechnoAlpin snowmaking system to ensure the best-possible conditions.
Trollhaugen acknowledged "We'll see you next season (or maybe a little sooner 🧐). Stay tuned!" on their Instagram, hinting that forthcoming storms at the end of this week might let the resort open back up for bonus days.
Notably, the 2025 season marks Trollhaugen's 75th anniversary.
