Troika Festival's celebration of Russian culture takes place this weekend. What to know

Maybe it's the Russian food that calls you, or the drinks, or the dancing or the chance to see inside the church with the gold domes.

Whatever draws you to the Troika Festival, it's almost time to head to the Russian Orthodox Church of the Nativity's Community Center, 109 German St. Troika will take place there Friday, 4-9 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday, noon-6 p.m. The festival is free to attend; prices vary for food and beverages.

What food will be served at the Troika Festival?

Potato pancakes, traditional Russian borscht soup, Russky fries with mushrooms and cheese mix, blini ― crepes with cottage cheese and fruit topping ― and much more are on the menu. So is an ice bar with $5 shots.

Who will perform?

Dancers with Barynya, a traditional Russian music ensemble, will perform again at the 2024 Troika Festival in Erie.

The world-renowned Barynya Dance Ensemble will be on stage Saturday at 2:30 p.m. and Sunday at 1, 3 and 5 p.m.

The schedule also includes guided and self-guided tours of the church at 251 East Front St. throughout the weekend.

Where does the money from the festival go?

Money from the festival goes towards church operations, supporting its food pantry, maintaining and upgrading its community center that serves as a shelter for the homeless in winter, and helping to beautify the historic East Bayfront neighborhood around the church, according to its website.
