Trixie Mattel calls out Kylie Jenner for similar lip gloss packaging

Last week, Kylie Jenner previewed her new Valentine’s Day collection for Kylie Cosmetics on social media. The limited-edition line-up includes an eyeshadow palette, lip balm, highlighter, false lashes, blush sticks, lip glosses and, of course, lip kits, all housed in heart-themed red and pink packaging.

While the comments sections were inundated by fans discussing how much they want/need/must have the collection, there was one product in particular that actually caused a stir.

Fans quickly began pointing out that the heart-shaped packaging for Kylie's lip glosses looked similar to the lip glosses sold by RuPaul’s Drag Race alum Trixie Mattel’s beauty brand, Trixie Cosmetics.

Some even began tagging Trixie’s Instagram handle on the post and labelled the situation #glossgate.

Soon after, Trixie, who launched Trixie Cosmetics in 2019, took to TikTok to call out Kylie in a now-viral video that has been watched over 2.2 million times.

In the video, Trixie applies her lip gloss before spotting a picture of Kylie’s Valentine’s lip glosses in the background and pausing with a confused look on her face. In the caption, she wrote: “Kylie I’m calling the police”.

The RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars winner then reposted the video to her Instagram page and Twitter, where she added: “breaking my silence and addressing the situation”.

As well as Trixie herself, the Trixie Cosmetics Instagram page made a reference to the lip gloss saga, too.

In a recent post, the brand shared a picture of its heart-shaped lip gloss with the caption: “Make sure you’re Keeping up with Trixie Cosmetics by giving us a follow 😉” – a reference to Kylie and her family’s show Keeping up with the Kardashians.
