Trix Brought Back Its Original Fruit-Shaped Cereal Design
UPDATE: December 15, 2018 at 10:42 a.m. EST
If you've been missing the cereal of your childhood, General Mills hears you. Earlier this fall, the cereal giant did every 90s kid a favor and restored fruity shapes to Trix cereal. Replaced by ball-shaped pieces in 2006, the brand received thousands of requests to bring shapes back, especially after the classic bright colors came back in 2017.
As of September, the people got what they wanted. Next time you go grocery shopping, take a stroll down the cereal aisle for full elementary school nostalgia.

General Mills has apparently heard customers' concerns loud and clear, as the brand is officially giving Trix cereal its original, vivid rainbow color scheme back, after an earlier rollout of an all-natural version. The announcement was made on Tuesday via a video shared to General Mills' official Facebook page that included tweets and feedback from angry customers who were less than satisfied by Trix cereal's new look and taste.
The cereal giant announced it would be releasing healthier versions of its products sans artificial colors, flavors, and ingredients back in 2015, and the result was an all-natural version of Trix cereal that was dyed using natural ingredients, like turmeric and radishes. Its colors were remarkably duller and the flavor was a bit different than the original, leading many fans to complain.
The naturally dyed Trix won't be disappearing, however - it's going to be sold alongside the original, Red 40, Blue 1, and Yellow 6 dye-containing variety.

Trix looks a lot less colorful these days, and the Internet is not having it.
The change happened for good reason - General Mills has been taking steps to make its cereal healthier, announcing in 2015 that all cereal would be free of artificial colors, flavors, and high-fructose corn syrup by 2017. However, by taking out ingredients like "Red 40" and "Yellow 5," the vibrant colors Trix is known for are now kind of lackluster. Think, less rainbow-hued and more fall toned.
The new boxes of Trix have been on grocery store shelves since January, but recent social media posts and tweets to General Mills have spurred people's disapproval of the new look.
That's not "Trix" cereal, that's "Pranks" cereal. https://t.co/qYzqFAS2bO

This is random but why does Trix cereal insist on making itself crappier? First they axed the fruit shapes and now the bright colors. 🙃

This tweet alone got almost 5,000 likes.
Bruh I just poured a bowl of Trix and almost threw the whole box away. When the hell did they change the color? pic.twitter.com/XjsWxREOwl

Some people are reminiscing on the 90s-era fruit-shaped Trix.

Others have pointed out that not eating neon-colored cereal is probably a good thing.
Are people actually complaining about Trix removing artificial colors and flavors? Do y'all want to die?

Of course, there's also this theory, which we're not totally disagreeing with.
What if they didn't change Trix cereal.. but only kids can see the pretty colors. 😶👀👀 pic.twitter.com/kxVEdn5c0s

Trix has been politely responding, reminding people know the color change came from the removal of artificial ingredients. But this is the Internet, so people are still outraged.
Maybe if the fun shapes come back, people will be less mad at the healthier cereal. General Mills isn't ruling it out.
