Trisha Yearwood Reveals That Husband Garth Brooks Was in NYC on 9/11

Today, 18 years after the terrible events of September 11, 2001, Trisha Yearwood is one of countless Americans reflecting on the horrors of that day.

In a heartfelt Facebook post, Yearwood revealed how close she came to being personally impacted by the terror attacks, and shared her hope that we will always honor the bravery of the first responders and remember the families who lost so much.

“I was in LA, asleep, preparing to shoot a video that morning,” the country singer recalled. “The phone rang. It was my mom. She sounded… different. I immediately knew something was wrong. She said, ‘We’re being attacked.’ She was crying and frantic, and worried that the west coast was next. I turned on the tv just in time to see the second plane hit. It didn’t seem real.”

“Then it really hit me… Garth is in NYC,” she continued in the Facebook post (below). “I didn’t know where, but I knew he was ­THERE.”

It took hours for Yearwood to get in touch with her future husband, who was in New York City participating in Read Across America Day. Eventually, she learned that he was safe and heading to Nashville by bus. She met him as soon as she could.

Garth was lucky, but the fear Yearwood experienced that day left an impression on her.

“What I take from 9/11 is that when the worst happens, we can come together and be our best,” she wrote. “My prayer today is that we remember the sacrifices of those who went to work that morning, never realizing they wouldn’t make it back home that night… that we remember the sacrifices of the first responders who lost their lives that day trying to help people get to safety… that we remember everyone who survived, but take the scars with them always."

"…That we remember the families who lost everything that day. That we remember the men and women who bravely responded to the call and fought (and fight) to end terrorism all over the world,” she concluded. “Never forget. Love one another."
