"Triple Snorkel Alert" Issued At Colorado Ski Area

Eldora Mountain, a ski area near Boulder, Colorado, is buried.

"Triple snorkel alert!" Powderchasers wrote in an Instagram post this morning highlighting the resort's snowy conditions. "Eldora has 48 inches in roughly 48 hours."

Eldora is working hard to get unstuck after all the new snow and doesn't anticipate opening today after yesterday's closure. The resort urges skiers to avoid visiting Eldora until they officially announce opening plans.

"Our crews continue to dig out, perform avalanche mitigation, and generally prepare roads/lots/lodges/lifts/slopes to receive guests again as soon as we possibly can," Eldora wrote in a mountain operations update. "We still do not anticipate being able to open today, Friday, March 15."

Yesterday proved to be complicated across Colorado's Front Range. Massive amounts of snow fell, leading to road and ski area closures. 9News reports that some travelers were stranded on I-70 during the storm.

With I-70 reopened, skiers are scrambling to get to the slopes and take advantage of the fresh snow. COtrip reports that the infamous highway—known for being, well, difficult during the winter—is currently experiencing "heavy" westbound traffic.

At about 9:30 A.M. this morning, Arapahoe Basin, Colorado, announced its parking lot was full. The resort—a Front Range classic—was closed yesterday alongside Eldora.

According to Meteorologist Chris Tomer, the storm is now heading south and is set to deposit snow in southern Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona. The next refresh, set to arrive around March 20, could benefit Colorado and several other states throughout the West.
