Trinity Lutheran Church drive collects 2,800 jars of peanut butter, jelly

MONROE — For the second year, Trinity Lutheran Church's Spread the Good News ministry has surpassed its goal.

Throughout April, the ministry collected jars of peanut butter and jelly. Its goal was 2,000 jars to give to area food pantries.

"Our peanut butter and jelly ministry brought in close to 2,800 jars of peanut butter and jelly this year," said Alison Beeker, chairperson of the Spread the Good News ministry.

"This year we were able to help 14 different agencies and food pantries in Monroe. This is a change from last year, when we helped nine agencies," Beeker said.

"We had donations from mostly individuals and a few organizations. Deb's Floral Designs collected and donated peanut butter and jelly for the cause. Altrusa International made a donation, and we had a local grocery store owner contribute 600 jars of peanut butter at one time. Monroe Kiwanis also supported this ministry," Beeker said. "If Trinity allows the drive to be held next year, I'd be happy to help again."
