We Tried the New Urban Decay Lipstick App — Here's What Happened

From Good Housekeeping

One of the most annoying things about trying on a bunch of different lipsticks is having to remove each of those lipsticks. Smearing, staining and smudging as you try to slough off the color with a tissue makes your mouth look both discolored and dry. One solution: not having to actually put any lip color on in the first place.

After announcing they would be getting rid of all their old lipsticks, Urban Decay came back with the news that it would be debuting a massive number of new hues and formulas instead. The result: the Urban Decay Vice Lipstick collection, which went on sale on June 5. But with 100 picks to choose from, it's hard to sort through which ones you want to try, let alone figure out which to buy.

To solve this dilemma, the brand has come out with an app that allows you to snap a selfie and virtually swatch each shade on your lips. I decided to give it a try.

And once I got started... I couldn't stop.

Some looked great on me!

And some looked... less great on me:

Of course, as fun as trying all of these hues on virtually was, there's nothing quite like putting on a new lipstick shade - really putting it on. You get to see it in different lightings, check out how it works with your personal style and experience how it feels on your lips. So, while this app can definitely help narrow down your potential faves, I suggest heading to Sephora (they're each on sale for $17 here) to get a real idea on which ones work best for you.
