If you’ve never had the speculoos cookies, it’s the Trader Joe’s version of Biscoff cookies, which are the European cinnamon-laced caramel cookie that is best dunked in tea or coffee. You may have also encountered these crisp cookies on your latest Delta flight, as they have been branded with their logo and served as their official airline snack at 30,000 feet since the 1980s.

The Madagascar vanilla bean crème fraîche is a limited-edition buy, which the company describes as a “cultured cream that’s fermented to produce a thick consistency and tangy flavor” that’s just perfect for dipping those cookies into. In fact, one Reddit user commented on this trend saying, “Dunkaroos, but make it fancy.”

What does the cookies and cream hack from Trader Joe’s taste like?

I’m all for a good dip—give me some spinach artichoke, sour cream and onion or my aunt’s famous seven-layer dip any time (and I’ll always pay extra for guac, of course). But dessert dip is one world I’ve never explored until now. I have to say, I’m hooked. I was really amazed at how good this was...and a tiny bit worried at how dangerous having a package of crispy cinnamon cookies and a container of vanilla bean cream next to me could be.

I followed the Reddit user’s suggestion from above and added a container of fresh raspberries to my TJ haul. There’s really nothing better than sweet summer berries except when they’re topped with a dollop of this creamy crème fraîche and crumbled speculoos cookies. It’s the perfect sunny day dessert and would make a fantastic beach day bring-along or addition to your 4th of July picnic with pretty much zero effort on your part.

Trader Joe’s says their crème fraîche has a higher fat content, which prevents it from curdling when heated. The result is a thick, tangy, luscious, vanilla bean-speckled cream that I absolutely fell in love with.

TJ’s recommends other ways to use the crème fraîche too: as a pancake or waffle topper, as a frosting for cakes or as a base for parfaits, which would all be delicious (why is this a limited-time run again??). The cookies are a mainstay, however: small packages lined up in their turquoise packaging and fancy font—crunchy, sugary and a slight caramelized edge to them. The pairing of the two isn’t too sweet and at the same time, it’s dangerously addictive. Run to the store and watch your summer get sweeter in no time.
