I Tried Sally Hansen’s New Glow-in-the-Dark Nail Polishes for Halloween

Halloween is a great time of year. It's arguably one of my favorite non-holiday holidays because I love figuring who or what I'm going to dress up as. It's a fun time to flex my creativity by creating a cool costume. With Halloween costumes comes figuring out your hair, makeup, and even nails. While Halloween nail art can get super complex (sometimes too complex), it's nice to have a quick-and-easy manicure that you can do at home. That's where Sally Hansen comes into play with its new Insta-Dri Glow in the Dark Collection.

The line includes four different shades — Hallo-Green, Glowing Night, Boooo-tiful, and Happy Hollow-een — giving you four different ways to glow in the dark. In the light, the shades are emerald green, baby pink, bright orange, and sheer lime green, respectively. In the dark, they glow faintly until you put them underneath blacklight for a bright fluorescent color.

Admittedly, when I first received these polishes I was a bit confused. I thought the nail polishes might be defective because they looked like they had disintegrated a bit. Each polish's pigment and the creamy looking substance that makes it glow separate inside the bottle and look, more or less, like oil and water — but rest-assured, they're supposed to look that way. While the bottle reads, "One stroke, one coat," I would recommend adding an extra layer or two to ensure coverage of your nails because these polishes are sheer. If you want a more opaque look, layer them on top of a white base or a nail polish shade in a similar color.

Each polish comes with the standard Sally Hansen Insta-Dri brush, which is wide and rounded at the edges. If you have smaller nail beds, this brush may be trickier to maneuver. Use the brush on its side or angle it on top of the nail to make it work for you. For those with wide nail beds, like me, this brush is perfect because you can get a full coat in two strokes. This nail polish does live up to its name and dries quickly, making it easy to add extra coats and minimize possible mistakes.

These Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Glow in the Dark polishes are great for an instant Halloween manicure or if you're a frequent raver. Each polish retails for $5 and is available at most drugstores, so you're good to go for last-minute Halloween nail art. Shop them just in time for Halloween now.
