I sort of have an addiction to reusable water bottles—there's just something incredibly convenient about having one handy in all the key spots (my apartment, my desk, my car). Thankfully, being a shopping writer for a living means I often receive water bottles and tumblers to test out (lucky me, right?!). And after trying too many water bottles to count, there's one that stands out as a consistant favorite. Let me introduce you to the Owala Insulated Stainless-Steel Tumbler, the simple yet super effective double-insulated cup you won't be able to live without.

Hear me out: I know everyone's obsessing over the Stanley Cup right now, and I'll be the first to admit that it is indeed great. But, the Owala is a more affordable option at $38 (that's $12 less!). And, you're not missing out on anything by going with the Owala either—after trying both, I can confirm they're practically the same product.

Before I jump into the full review, let me outline what I look for in the perfect water bottle. First off, it has to have a straw for sipping. Having a chugging mouthpiece is a bonus, but not a deal-breaker (although this one has both). It also needs to keep my drinks cold all day—I lose interest the moment my water gets warm. Lastly, my water bottle must be colorful because that's what makes hydrating fun, right?

So, without further ado, here's everything I loved about Owala's water bottle after testing it for three months, along with a few things to consider before you buy.

It's designed to make staying hydrated easy

When I received my Owala, the color options immediately jumped out at me. I personally opted for a limited-edition coral color that's unfortunately now sold out. However, similar to the Stanley Cup, there's still a range of fun options like "Hip Cactus," and "Watermelon Breeze." To me, opting for a cute water bottle brings the fun into staying hydrated.

In terms of functionality, it holds 40 ounces of water like the Stanley Cup. Plus, it's super easy to drink from, thanks to its two-in-one sip-or-swig lid, which allows you to sip through the included plastic straw or tip it back and chug directly from the splash-resistant lid.

And, cleaning it is also a breeze. The lid is dishwasher-safe, perfect for those days where it needs a deep clean. While the cup itself isn't made for the dishwasher—neither is the Stanley, BTW—its wide opening makes it extremely easy to wash. Oh, and this makes adding ice into your cup a breeze, too.

It comes in handy when you're on the go

Living in Manhattan, I'm on the go all the time, so I need something that's super functional to use throughout the day. While this water bottle's generous size and insulation adds some weight, the addition of the handle on the side of the bottle along with the spill-resistant lid make carrying it around NYC more manageable. Plus, for the fitness fanatics of the group, it fits snugly into gym bottle holders, which is a welcome bonus. Some online reviewers even say this water bottle fits perfectly into their cup holders in the car.

And when you're constantly on the move, you need your ice-cold water to stay that way all day long. Rest assured, with the level of insulation in this bottle, warm water will be the least of your worries. There have even been occasions where I'll fill it with ice before bed, and it's still freezing cold after a solid eight hours of sleep.

Although I love this cup, it does have a flaw or two

While this water bottle has quickly become my go-to, I have noticed a few not-so-happy reviews on its durability. Some have reported that the color of their water bottle has faded within just a month of purchasing it, while others have experienced issues with the handle detaching from the bottle frame. One reviewer even said they had to opt for Crazy Glue to get the handle back on. While I haven't experienced this myself, it's something to keep in mind when purchasing your Owala.

The bottom line

Despite its (very few!) small flaws, I would still recommend this affordable water bottle if you're looking to amp-up your water intake. While it may lean towards the heavier side and received a few questionable durability ratings, the brand backs it up with a lifetime warranty against material defects. After three months of daily use, I feel totes comfortable recommending it. In fact, I'd go as far as to say it's a must-buy.

If you're interested, consider this your cue to explore other options from the brand, including the TikTok-famous Free Sip Water Bottle or the Coffee Tumbler. Trust, once you try the tumbler, you'll want everything Owala makes.
