There are a lot of cool things out there that make us wonder — do they really work? In our I Tried It series, we set out to use them in the real world and have determine that, in fact, they really do.

On Trial: FLOWER Beauty’s Titanium Rotating Styling Iron

Tester: Caitlyn Fitzpatrick, whose wavy hair is best made sleek with a hair straightener

The Brief: My hair straightener and I have been in a serious relationship for years. It has come with me on mini getaways, international trips, and anywhere that requires me to be away from home for 24 hours, so it would take a lot for me to give up the traditional ceramic-plated style.

Drew Barrymore first launched her beauty brand, FLOWER Beauty, in 2012. Up until now, the line has been focused on makeup and skincare, but as of Sept. 30, it’s now offering a Hair Tools Collection, which includes six items that will dry, straighten, and curl your locks. The one that has won me over is the Titanium Rotating Styling Iron.

A typical hair straightener uses two ceramic or titanium plates that heat up for you to sandwich your strands. What makes the talk show host’s version different is that it uses a 1.25-inch rounded barrel that revolves when brought together with the brush bristles on the other side.

As someone whose worst traveling nightmare is forgetting to pack something as important as my straightener, I wasn’t going to go easy on testing the Titanium Rotating Styling Iron. And honestly, I was expecting not to like it since I’m a creature of habit. I came to find that the FLOWER Beauty tool not only works better than other straighteners I’ve used (for my strands anyway) — but that it also keeps my hair feeling healthier.

Thanks to the rotating barrel that naturally pushes hair through from root to end, there's not as much dragging accompanied by that bone-chilling sound of my ends literally splitting in my hands. It feels gentler on my hair, which is crucial since mine is on the thinner side. Plus, when I’m done, my hair feels light and airy without the frizz, and stays straight throughout the day.

Like with other straighteners, you can use the styling iron to curl your hair as well. It boasts being a 4-in-1 styler that straightens and curls, and also adds volume and shine. I can't attest to the curling, since I’m a straight-hair kind of girl, but I’m satisfied with how it straightens, volumizes, and adds shines.

You won’t find the typical neutral colors with in the Hair Tools Collection. Barrymore is all about bright colors and mixing hues on the same item. The Titanium Rotating Styling Iron, for example, is yellow with a purple cord. It’s certainly more fun than that black one you have sitting on your bathroom countertop.

“The one thing I challenged our company with — and we had to delay a year for because they said it couldn’t be done — is, as a woman, I don’t ever want to see a black cord again,” Barrymore said in a media video.

In addition to the Titanium Rotating Styling Iron, FLOWER Beauty’s Hair Tools Collection includes the Ionic Volumizing Styler, Ceramic Styling Iron, Ceramic Straightening Brush, Ionic Pro Dryer, and Iconic Travel Dryer, a small travel version. Each piece is under $70 and available exclusively at Walmart and Walmart.com beginning on Sept. 30. Your hair will thank you.

Closing Argument: I’m the first one to acknowledge that I don’t like change, even with something as mundane as a hair straightener. So the Titanium Rotating Styling Iron has to be good if I’ve been choosing it over my classic one.
