I Tried 'The World's Most Comfortable Shoes' — And They're 100% Worth the Hype
When Allbirds wool sneakers first came out and were marketed as "the world's most comfortable shoes," I took notice. As someone with high-arch feet who's prone to plantar fasciitis, wearing comfortable shoes that provide stability and support is very important. Soon, I saw that celebs like Jennifer Garner and Hilary Duff were wearing them. Then, my boyfriend bought himself a pair, and would not stop talking about how comfortable they were. So finally, I bought myself a pair of Allbirds, and I have to say: they really do live up to all the hype.
Here the all the reasons why I'm obsessed with my Allbirds:
They really are incredibly comfortable, even if you have foot problems.
I love Allbirds' padded insole - it's soft and cushy, which is ideal for my high arches and keeps my feet happy even when I'm standing or walking all day long. They also have helped keep my plantar fasciitis at bay (along with this night splint). That said, if you think you might need extra support, you can easily remove the insoles and replace them with your own inserts or orthotics.
Additionally, the Merino wool upper is very flexible, and provides support while giving me freedom of movement. I tend to underpronate (or supinate), meaning my feet roll outward when I start to get tired. The durable laces allow me to tighten or loosen the shoes to my level of comfort while giving me stability. The lightweight soles also have a unique S-curve tread that mimics that anatomical flexibility of my feet, so it distributes my weight naturally as I walk.
You can wear them without socks.
Allbirds shoes have removable padded insoles made with super-soft merino wool that wicks moisture and sweat, so you can wear them sockless (and they don't itch, in case you're wondering).
They're made from eco-friendly materials.
In addition to Merino wool, Allbirds shoes use other earth-friendly materials. The laces are made from recycled polyester, and the insoles are made from castor bean oil, which results in a smaller carbon footprint than traditional petroleum-based foam.
They're machine washable.
Allbirds shoes are incredibly easy to clean in the washing machine, though I don't recommend throwing them in with your regular laundry if you want to keep grime from the outdoors away from your clothes. Be sure to remove the laces and insoles before you throw them into the machine. I like to brush off excess dirt from the outer soles with a brush or sponge, too.
Wash the shoes in the delicates cycle or in cold water. Allbirds recommends putting the shoes in a linen bag, but I just threw mine into the wash. When your shoes are done washing, air dry them - don't add them to the dryer. You can hand wash the insoles and laces in a basin with a little bit of detergent-and voila, your Allbirds feel brand new. And if you want to replace your insoles and laces entirely, Allbirds sells them separately.
