Candles never fail to make a home more welcoming, but isn't it disappointing when they burn too quickly? We've all been there. If you absolutely love candles, especially scented options, and have had enough of endless trails of black smoke and weirdly shaped wicks, we have you covered.

We checked in with Diptyque's Director of Marketing, Eduardo Valadez, to discover his top candle-burning pointers, from the right way to trim a wick to the best fire safety practices. Read on for his tips to enjoy your candles for as long as possible.

Burn it for two to three hours the first time.

"The first time you use your candle, let it burn for at least two to three hours until all of the wax on the surface has become liquid. This will prevent the wax from tunneling down around the wick."

Avoid direct drafts.

"There is not a specific room or temperature to burn a candle. However, you should avoid placing a lit candle in a direct draft, preventing an uneven burn."

Remember to trim the wick.

"To ensure your candle burns evenly, make sure the wick is centered and trimmed. The ideal length is three to five millimeters. Wick-trimming is key!"

Practice fire safety.

"Don’t light a candle that has less than five millimeters of wax remaining and the wick tripod visible. Never leave a burning candle unattended. Don't move a candle that is lit or in a liquid state."
