Tributes Pour In For Robb Gaffney Following Recent Update On His Health

Last weekend, the skiing community received heartrending news: Dr. Robb Gaffney of Matchstick Productions and Squallywood fame had stopped responding to the chemo drugs used to treat his advanced-stage cancer.

Robb returned to Lake Tahoe, California, where he is now surrounded by friends and family.

Scott, his brother (and fellow freeskiing icon), documented the situation in a September 16th letter where he wrote: "In short, we aren't ready but we're all here, in place, for that final, painful goodbye. Thank you all for being there, with us, on this brutal, awful, agonizing, surreal, enlightening, rewarding, wonderful journey."

In response to the tragic news, an outpouring of love and appreciation emerged from the freeskiing community, including this Instagram upload documenting Robb's on-ski antics in Matchstick Productions' High Society.

Beneath Matchstick's post, skiers paid tribute to Robb, noting his outsized influence on our shared sport.

Absolutely love this segment. Thanks for everything Robb! You've inspired people far more than you will ever know!

Keep the shred alive Robb! You guys have inspired me so much and are my biggest idols in the skiing world!

Influence doesn't have a great ring to it these days… but that man had some serious influence.

Timeless skiing style and a Jedi of a human

Crazy… I was just thinking about Robb, and watched this movie, again lol, last night. One of my all time favorite films, timeless. And his segment is so good! Such a clean smooth skier, his technique is on point. Sending my best!

Thank you for everything, Robb.
