Trevante Rhodes stars as Mike Tyson in the Hulu biopic series MIKE. The show will chronicle the boxing icon's beginnings, including a stint in a juvenile detention center, as well as his rise up the ranks to the youngest heavyweight champion of all time—and his criminal history, fall from grace and eventual comeback.

Covering everything from Tyson's domestic violence allegations to the infamous bite heard 'round the world (though maybe not necessarily as well by Evander Holyfield), the series, helmed by the team behind I, Tonya, seeks to show Tyson as a full-fledged, if flawed, human being.

"We were never trying to say that Mike Tyson is a hero or Mike Tyson is a villain," showrunner Karen Gist told Entertainment Weekly of the series. "Our goal was to take a very complicated and controversial figure and try to get under the hood of what he was praised and vilified for while staying true to our North Star of 'no one person is one thing.' The show is not supposed to be a love letter or an indictment, which is why we had to include all the good, the bad, and the complexities of both."

What is the MIKE release date?

Mike premieres on Hulu on Aug. 25, 2022.

Did Mike Tyson authorize the MIKE show?

Tyson spoke out against Mike (then titled Iron Mike) when the show was first announced in February 2021.

He wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post (via Variety), “Hulu’s announcement to do an unauthorized mini-series of the Tyson story without compensation, although unfortunate, isn’t surprising. This announcement on the heels of social disparities in our country is a prime example of how Hulu’s corporate greed led to this tone-deaf cultural misappropriation of the Tyson life story. To make this announcement during Black History Month only confirms Hulu’s concern for dollars over respect for black story rights. Hollywood needs to be more sensitive to black experiences especially after all that has transpired in 2020. The real Mike Tyson authorized story is in development and will be announced in coming days. Hulu to announce stealing a black athletes story during Black History month couldn’t be more inappropriate or tone deaf. #boycotthulu #corporategreed.”
