Trevante Rhodes Transforms Into Mike Tyson in First Look at New TV Show

The teaser trailer for Hulu's upcoming original series Mike, inspired by the life of controversial boxing champion Mike Tyson dropped yesterday, offering the internet its first look at Trevante Rhodes as the titular figure. And not only does the actor embody the boxer's mannerisms—most notably in that highly distinctive voice—but also his physicality.
In addition to a series of short clips which depict some of the most high-profile incidents from Tyson's life and career, including that notorious ear bite and what appears to be a portrayal of domestic violence, the trailer includes several shirtless shots, in which it is clear that the already-ripped Rhodes has packed on even more muscle in order to believably play a heavyweight fighter.
This isn't the first time that Rhodes' physique has been integral to his performance. In his breakthrough role as the adult Chiron in Barry Jenkins' 2018 Oscar-winner Moonlight, the first time the audience sees him, he is naked, his hulking, intimidating torso standing in stark contrast to the skinny, vulnerable teenager that viewers had grown attached to in the earlier section of the movie.
He has since leveraged that jacked torso into more traditionally action-oriented fare like The Predator, and claims that an early start is the key to staying in such amazing shape.
"I wake up at 4:30, I meditate, then I go to the gym for a couple hours, do abs, whatever muscle that is for the day, we jog, and we start our day at eight," the actor previously told Men's Health, adding: "I think everything starts mentally. Everything starts mentally and spiritually, emotionally, all of those things. Everything is, for me at least, inside out."
Rhodes' transformation into Tyson in the trailer for Mike is an impressive one, but it will also have some stiff competition: actor and musician Jamie Foxx is also currently in the process of chasing his gains in preparation for the long-awaited movie based on Tyson's life in which he intends to play the man himself.
