What to look for when shopping for a spring wedding guest dress
✔️ Florals: "In spring, florals are always fun! Floral patterns and details, in particular roses, are trending in 2024," shares Sabatino. Luckily, there are floral dresses available in just about every color, length, and cut, so you should have no problem finding one you like.
✔️ Material: You'll want to find a dress that's made with materials you find comfortable, keeping in mind the climate where the wedding will take place. You should also consider the dress code for the wedding. You can often wear breezier materials such as linen for a beach wedding or casual wedding while formal or black-tie weddings often call for more structured fabrics.
✔️ Colors: Other than white, there's no "wrong" color for a spring wedding guest dress in most cultures. Though, it's always safe to stick to pastels and soft hues. Some common colors for spring wedding guest dresses are pink (as Sabatino notes is trending for 2024), lavender, sage green, sky blue, and other pastels. However, you will want to make sure your dress isn't too pale. Oftentimes, a very light dress will photograph as white, so be aware of this when shopping.
FAQ
What should I wear to a spring wedding as a guest?
This depends largely on the dress code. For a casual or daytime wedding, you can opt for a dress of practically any length, from an adorable mini dress to a breezy maxi dress. For a semi-formal or cocktail wedding, you'll want to go a little fancier, but there's no need for a floor-length gown. If it's a formal wedding, you can wear an elegant cocktail dress or jumpsuit with matching accessories. If it's a black-tie optional wedding, you can wear a floor-length gown or a longer cocktail dress. If the dress code is black tie, you'll want a floor-skimming gown.
If you're uncertain about the dress code, ask someone close to the couple (or the couple themselves) to get an idea of what you should wear. When in doubt, it's usually better to be overdressed than underdressed at a wedding.
Are there any styles to avoid for a spring wedding?
"I always recommend to our clients that they avoid anything too dark and heavy, with the exception of black," says Sabatino. You may also want to ask what the couple's wedding colors are, to ensure you don't accidentally show up in the same color as the bridal party.
Is it OK to wear a black dress to a spring wedding?
As Sabatino notes, black is always chic! If you're worried about looking too drab, consider accessorizing your black dress or jumpsuit with jewelry and accessories that have floral prints or pastel hues to make it more fitting for spring.
