Trek Bicycle has announced a voluntary recall of all 2022 Speed Concept SLR bicycles, 2021-2022 Emonda SLR bicycles, and Bontrager Aeolus RSL VR-C handlebars and stems sold as an aftermarket product. The recall is happening because the carbon base bar and handlebar/stem can crack if overloaded, causing the rider to lose control of the bike. Customers are asked to stop using the bike and to contact their local Trek dealer.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, roughly 3,200 bicycles and 900 aftermarket handlebar stems. An additional 530 bicycles and 115 aftermarket handlebars/stems in Canada are subject to recall.

The bar itself is part of what helped reduce the overall drag reduction on the Emonda bike by roughly 70 grams, thanks to its sleek and lightweight design. Without it, the drag reduction compared to previous years is only 113 grams. Hopefully, Trek is able to correct the issue and make a sturdier bar that's equally lightweight and aero.
