Trek Bicycle Company has announced a recall that involves Trek bicycles with revision 1 of the Promax Solve DSK-925 and Promax F1 DSK-927 hydraulic disc brakes. The brakes were installed as original equipment on the bicycle models affected.

The reason for the recall is that the brake hose can detach from the brake lever, posing a crash hazard. Trek has received 195 reports of brake hoses detaching from the brake lever in the United States, according to CPSC. No injuries have been reported.

However, owners of an affected model should not disregard this recall. According to Trek, if the brake hose ejects from the brake lever, the rider could be involved in a serious accident. The company says customers should not ride an affected model until it’s been inspected by a Trek retailer. Below is a chart of the affected models of Trek bikes in this recall.

The bikes with the affected brakes can be identified by the serial number printed on a sticker underneath the bicycle frame. The bicycle’s serial number begins with “WTU” and is located on the bottom bracket near the crankset.

The affected bikes were sold at Trek dealers nationwide and online at www.trekbikes.com from June 2021 through March 2023 for between $730 and $3,300. Anyone unsure whether their bike is affected is urged to have their bike inspected at an authorized Trek dealer.

Riders can also check their bike’s serial number at www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/promax-recall-inquiry/ to determine if their bike is included in this recall.

According to Trek, owners of an affected bicycle will be provided with a free inspection and, if appropriate, a repair of the brake hose where it connects to the brake lever at no cost. Inspections and repairs must go through an authorized Trek retailer.

Trek is encouraging any riders with questions about the recall to contact a Trek retailer or Trek Customer Care at 1-800-373-4594 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. CT, or online at www.trekbikes.com.
