When it comes to trick-or-treating, Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce’s dad Ed has some strict rules about who should and shouldn’t go. In fact, he inadvertently “ruined” the holiday for them when they were kids, and the story is so funny (and also a little sad!).

In a new episode of the New Heights podcast, Jason and Travis answer a fan question about their favorite childhood Halloween costume. The answer? Mario and Luigi, of course! After laughing at the old photo, Jason delved into their dad’s feelings about the holiday.

“Halloween somewhat got ruined for us by dad,” Jason says, making Travis laugh. He explained that the brothers stopped trick-or-treating “at a very young age.”

“He’s the Grinch of Halloween,” Travis said, adding that their dad will pass out candy, he just didn’t want to walk them around the neighborhood.

“Maybe that was the real reason, but the way he said it to us was like, ‘Once you stop trick-or-treating, you hit like another level of maturity.’” What kid could resist the chance to be seen as more mature by their dad?

Jason added, “Once you hit puberty level, if you were trick-or-treating, you were not getting candy. He would actively reject people. He would say, ‘No. Get out of here. Not young enough.’ So we stopped. Like, before we got to middle school.”

Poor kids! As someone who loved dressing up and going trick-or-treating as a child and teen, it breaks my heart a little bit to think they couldn’t do it anymore before they even hit 6th grade. Let your kids (and your teenagers!) trick-or-treat, and don’t be afraid to give out candy to older trick-or-treaters, too. At least they aren’t out getting drunk or destroying property! Which, actually brings up another Ed Kelce word of wisdom.

The brothers talked about how they used to TP people’s house and egg their cars, and Jason encourages kids today to “get into some trouble.” They add, “within reason!”

“Ed Kelce’s number one rule: you could be stupid, just don’t be real stupid,” Travis added. Love that!

People were adding their two cents in the comments. “That’s why you don’t turn down teens trick or treating…it’s better than them out getting into trouble! Let them be kids,” one person wrote.

“Not me taking advice from Papa Kelce. I’m going to tell my babies ‘you can be stupid, just don’t get caught’ 🤣” another said.

It sounds like Ed is quite the character!

Earlier this month, Ed was photographed talking to Travis’s girlfriend Taylor Swift, which the brothers later talked about on their podcast.

“You know Dad like I know Dad,” Travis said to Jason in Wednesday’s episode of their podcast.

“He shouldn’t be talking to Taylor Swift,” Jason cut in.

“I felt terrible for Taylor for being [subjected to that],” Travis said.

“If you see Dad talking to anybody and you can’t hear what’s happening, who knows where that conversation’s going,” Jason joked.

Later, though, Travis defended their old man. “We can’t keep kicking Dad just because we enjoy doing it, man, and our dad is the best f*cking dad in the world,” he said. “He is a great converser. It’s where Jason gets his storytelling and all of his charisma. We’re saying this just because we like to rag on the big guy.”

Despite allegedly “ruining” the holiday for them, Travis and Jason don’t love their dad any less!
