Talk about “Blank Space.” According to multiple reports, Taylor Swift missed Travis Kelce’s birthday dinner—and some on social media are already reading into what her absence could mean for their rumored romance.
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end turned 34 years old on October 5, 2023. The NFL star celebrated his big day the following evening with a dinner at Golden Ox steakhouse in Kansas City, Missouri, according to Entertainment Tonight. An eyewitness told the outlet that Kelce was joined by one of his agents and two of his Chiefs teammates.

The small group arrived around 8:30 p.m. and ended up closing out the restaurant, though it sounds like Kelce kept things pretty low-key overall. According to the eyewitness, there was no dessert or blowing out the candles for the footballer. “They all had a good time and enjoyed themselves,” the eyewitness shared.
The two-time Super Bowl champ also kept things casual for his wardrobe, wearing a black cap, hoodie, sweatpants and sneakers, as seen in photos obtained by The Daily Mail. According to the outlet, Kelce appeared to be “less-than-enthusiastic” after dinner. (Missing Taylor, possibly?!) He did, however, put on a smile when he was approached by paparazzi outside of the restaurant, where he snapped photos with several fans.

While Taylor Swift wasn’t part of Travis Kelce’s birthday dinner plans, it’s been speculated that the “Love Story” singer might have been headed to Kansas City to celebrate with her rumored beau ahead of his birthday. A day before Kelce rang in another trip around the sun, Swift was spotted leaving New York City. Page Six reported that Swift’s luggage was loaded into a car and taken to Teterboro Airport in New Jersey, though it was unclear at the time where exactly the pop star was headed next. The jury’s also still out on whether or not Swift will be in attendance at Kelce’s next game, when the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Minnesota Vikings at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis on October 8, 2023.
Some social media users are convinced that the Midnights singer and NFL star might have celebrated his birthday privately. “The fact that Taylor and Travis are both quiet on Travis’ birthday and have not been photographed anywhere tells me that they definitely did spend it together,” one social media user speculated. Another wrote, “gonna wake up to a news story about how taylor and travis celebrated his birthday privately and there’s no evidence of it but it was totally genuine and super romantic.”
While this is not that news story, we can share what Kelce said about the singer the day after his birthday. Clearly, the NFL player was still thinking of Swift during a press conference following his practice on October 6, 2023. “It feels like I was on top of the world after the Super Bowl and right now I’m even more on top of the world,” he told reporters when asked about all the attention he’s been receiving lately.
He did admit, however, that he’s still learning how to navigate the spotlight. “It comes with it. You’ve got a lot of people that care about Taylor, and for good reason,” he said, adding, “You just gotta keep living and learning and enjoying the moments.”
Meanwhile, a source recently told Us Weekly that Swift isn’t bothered by all the publicity surrounding their relationship. The insider explained that she’s “at a point in her life where she’s no longer willing to hold back. If something feels right—like it does with Travis—she’s jumping in with both feet. She’s very happy and loving life right now.”
A second source added, “Taylor has decided she’s not going to hide anymore. She’s going to be her authentic self and enjoy life.” The insider went on to explain that the pair “talk every day,” and are taking the time to get to know each other. “They’re taking it day by day, but she has high hopes. She likes that he’s a normal, nice guy. He’s down-to-earth and isn’t affected by fame. She also thinks he’s hot.”
