Trained Medical Dog Reacting to Little Girl’s Low Blood Sugar Is Something To See

The bond between kids and their pets is so special, and even more meaningful if the dog is a service dog. @ourONEderfulboggslife shared a video at the end of October introducing us all to their daughter Raelynn's dog Spy, and their story is very cool!

Raelynn has Type 1 Diabetes, and Spy is her trained medical alert dog. Spy uses her nose and can smell when the little girl's blood sugars are too high or too low, and she alerts Raelynn before even her Dexcom monitor alerts her. While shopping recently, Raelynn's blood sugar started to drop, and Spy shows us what happens and how she takes care of her mom.

What an amazing thing to see! The yellow lab was not going to let her mom out of her sight and was so worried and attentive the whole time. @ourONEderfulboggslife shared in their caption, "This yellow lab is an angel in disguise"! I couldn't agree more!

Commenters had a lot to say about the special dog. @Tammy Tomberlin said, "Thank you educating us on the job that your service dog does!" @Lulu wondered, "Do or can service dogs detect other people’s blood sugars if they are around long enough if their sugar is low?" and they replied back, "Yes, she does". @Jen asked, "Has she ever alerted a stranger? I've always wondered if service dogs sometimes help others, even if they don't know they need it." and the reply was again that yes, Spy has helped others. Pretty incredible!

My cousin has cerebral palsy and has a service dog. Their relationship is very cool, and I think that sometimes the patient takes care of the dog just as much as the dog cares for them.
