According to the Hollywood Reporter, DreamWorks Animation's How to Train Your Dragon live-action remake has finally cast its two main characters, and they're so good I have goosebumps.

Over the years, Disney has cranked out live-action remakes left and right and, occasionally, caused controversy over its casting by choosing actors who do or don't align with fans' expectations.

And now Dreamworks Animation is getting into the ring with their first live-action remake of the 2010 animated film based on the books by Cressida Cowell about "a smallish Viking with a longish name" who becomes best friends with an injured dragon.

The young Viking, Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, will be played by 15-year-old Mason Thames.

You might remember Mason's brilliant performance as Finney Blake in the 2021 thriller Black Phone or his acting debut as young Daniel Stevens in the Apple TV+ drama For All Mankind.

His rival-turned–love interest, Astrid Hofferson, will be played by 18-year-old Nico Parker.

You might remember Nico from her recent appearance as Sarah Miller in HBO's The Last of Us or Milly Ferrier in the live-action remake of Dumbo.

I can't get over how good this casting will be. These talented actors might have what it takes to transform into real-life versions of our favorite animated heroes. THR reports it took "many months" to find actors who could grow up with the franchise since the animated films take place over several years, and they're the ideal age.

The live-action film will be written and directed by Dean DeBlois, the filmmaker and animator behind the original How to Train Your Dragon movies, so it's in good hands.

As for Toothless, I think only one person can play him. Hear me out: Andy Serkis.

Andy is one of the best motion capture actors in the game, with characters like Gollum from The Lord of the Rings and Ceasar from The Planet of the Apes franchises under his belt.

It's the perfect casting.

I will admit I'm a little nervous about which Dreamworks Animation movie will get the live-action treatment next.
