2017 brought us Lady Bird, the film that made us laugh and cry with our mom. But it’s 2018 now. And do you know what we need? A film to make us call our moms and say thank you. Over, and over, and over again. Well we won’t have to wait much longer. Reigning action-movie queen, Charlize Theron, will star in this year’s Tully.

From the writer and director of Juno, Tully will see Theron in a brand new light — and badass in a completely different way. Theron plays Marlo, a mother of three, including a newborn. She’s pumping her breasts and looks miserable. Later in the trailer, Theron is barely getting by raising her three kids. She’s playing peek-a-boo, and sleeping on the couch. When dinner is ready, its frozen pizza. Honestly, Charlize could use a break. And what do you know!

The end of the trailer sees Mackenzie Davis, playing the titular Tully, appear, as if by magic, on Marlo’s doorstep. She utters the words, “I’m here to take care of you,” and we hear all the mother’s in the world sigh with relief.

We’ve seen Theron fight off bad guys many, many times, and now we’re about to see her fight motherhood. Once again, her versatility and powerful performances speak for themselves, and Tully looks like another hit. Along with that, pair Theron’s talent with past collaborators Reitman and Diablo Cody, and we’re sold. Reitman and Cody previously worked on Juno and Young Adult, also starring Theron. When this artistic duo gets together, they rarely do anything cliche.

What looks like a modern Mary Poppins will surely have us see a unique relationship between two women. And we are so here for that. This award winning team is about to bring some #motherhood realness to the screen. Get the tissues everyone. And have your mom on speed dial. Tully hits theaters April 20, 2018.
