The 66th annual Grammy Awards were filled with memorable moments, including Taylor Swift announcing a new album, Celine Dion making a surprise appearance, and Joni Mitchell's moving rendition of "Both Sides of Now." But the best performance of the night came when Tracy Chapman took the stage to sing "Fast Car" with country star Luke Combs.

Luke's cover of Tracy's 1988 hit was nominated for Best Country Solo Performance and Tracy, who rarely performs publicly, surprised the crowd to sing it with Luke during the show.

Before Luke and Tracy took the stage, he told the story of listening to "Fast Car" while riding around in his dad's truck as a young boy. Luke said, "My dad had a 1988 Ford 150 pickup truck. It had a cassette player in it, and my dad would play me the Tracy Chapman self-titled album. That song, 'Fast Car,' was my favorite song before I even knew what a favorite song was."

He continued, "I've been playing that song since I could play guitar. I just love that song. So when I went in the studio to record my most recent record, which was Getting Old, I thought, what if we do this cover of 'Fast Car'? I'm not doing it for anybody else. I'm just doing it for me. Tracy's obviously written one of the best songs for a few generations...It's just a cool full-circle moment for me. Just to be associated with her in any way is super humbling for me."

During the performance, Luke watched Tracy with a smile on his face and mouthed the words with her. In the crowd, Taylor Swift stood up and danced, while Jelly Roll and Michael Trotter, Jr., from The War and Treaty sung and danced enthusiastically. By the end of the song, the entire audience gave them a standing ovation.

CMT shared photos from the performance on Instagram and received hundreds of comments praising the duet.
