This town uses "silent" fireworks, and the reason why makes so much sense
We all know it just wouldn’t be a Fourth of July celebration without fireworks – but unfortunately, not everyone enjoys them as much as we do. Pets, in particular, have a hard time sitting through the loud booms, crackles, and pops, which is why a little town in Italy found an alternative to help our anxious, furry friends enjoy July 4th, too. Silent. Fireworks.
The local government of Collecchio, Italy passed a law in 2015 that requires citizens to keep their firework displays limited to “silent” or “quiet” in order to reduce the stress that loud noises cause animals (wildlife included). Humans can also benefit from silent fireworks since small children are often frightened by the noise. And while “silent’ fireworks aren’t technically 100% sound-free, they’re a much quieter alternative to traditional varieties.
Though some might argue that fireworks need to be loud and booming, you’ve probably already seen some silent ones light up the sky without even realizing it. For example, the “comet tail” firework that shoots a streak across the sky and then sparkles before it fades away is technically “silent.”

As much as we personally may love the iconic boom of a fireworks display, we think the silent variety are an excellent compromise for our pets and wildlife. Anything that reduces the amount of stress on animals — both wild and domestic — is a good thing in our book.
