New Tower District farmers market in Fresno to shut down street with veggies, food trucks

A weekly farmers market will take over Olive Avenue in Fresno starting Thursday, April 20.

Running from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursdays year round, it will shut down the Tower District’s main thoroughfare between Echo and Wishon avenues.

Local seasonal fruit and vegetables will take center stage, with vendors also selling crafts and other items. Local food trucks will also participate.

At least 15 different cultures of food will be represented at the event each week, according to the California Fresh Farmers Market Association.

At least 15 food trucks and 40 other food producers and bakers have signed on to participate.

The market is still accepting specialty crop growers, bakers and other food producers, who can apply at www.cffma.com.

A national grant has funded a program to educate consumers about specialty crops at the market. They can scan a QR code with their phones to learn about the fruit or vegetable, and see recipes and videos of chefs preparing dishes.
