Total solar eclipse viewing parties in NYC

NEW YORK (PIX11) – New York City might only see part of the upcoming total solar eclipse, but that doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate the rare celestial event locally.

Come Monday, New Yorkers will be able to see the eclipse from all different points of view – from the ground to the sky and even on a boat.

Here are some viewing parties happening around New York City during the total solar eclipse:

New York Hall of Science Eclipse Watch Party

The New York Hall of Science will hold a viewing party from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. behind the museum off of Science Avenue in Queens. There will be a DJ, food, and activities for children. The museum will also be giving out eclipse glasses to protect your eyes.

Tickets for general admission start at $10, and if you’re a museum member, they’re discounted at $5. Students at certain schools will be able to get in for free. For more information on the event, check out Eventbrite.

Sky-High Solar Eclipse at the Edge

The Edge will be holding an eclipse viewing party at its outdoor observation deck, which is the highest in the Western Hemisphere. A Solar Sipper cocktail will be available for purchase at the deck’s bar.

Solar Eclipse Viewing Event at Intrepid Museum

The Intrepid Museum will be offering museum-goers the chance to catch the solar eclipse from the flight deck of the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Access to the flight deck will be on a first-come, first-served basis, so be sure to get there before the event starts.

The museum will offer free eclipse glasses based on availability. General admission to the museum costs $36 for adults and $26 for children between ages 5 and 12, but there is a discounted rate available for New York City residents. To find out more, click here.

2024 Solar Eclipse Experience at One World Observatory

Take the skies to see the total solar eclipse at the One World Observatory. The purchase of a ticket gets you a pair of eclipse glasses, a voucher for a complimentary drink of choice, a pint glass, a souvenir photo, and 10% off at the retail shop.

Solar Eclipse Community Event at Brooklyn Botanic Garden

The Brooklyn Botanic Garden is offering free admission to its eclipse viewing event from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Outside food is prohibited, but food can be purchased at the garden’s canteen.

Eclipse glasses will be given out for free while supplies last. Tickets are free but you must RSVP to the event before going. For more information, click here.

Solar Eclipse Day at American Museum of Natural History

Participate in family-friendly activities during the total solar eclipse at the American Museum of Natural History. The museum will be giving out eclipse glasses while supplies last.

The event is free with museum admission. New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut residents can pay what they wish, but they can only see the permanent exhibits. Regular admission for adults costs $25, while the cost for children between ages 3 and 12 is $14.
