Paramount is taking advantage of the gigantic success of Top Gun: Maverick because, rumor has it, lift off for a third film is a-go.
Puck was first to report the news, saying that the aim is to bring back Tom Cruise, Miles Teller, and Glen Powell, with Ehren Kruger writing the script and director Joe Kosinski also returning.
Cruise is a busy guy, partnering with Warner Bros for the next wave of new films, and now the news of Top Gun 3 has hit the media, all eyes are on the star.
Top Gun: Maverick blew all expectations out of the water when it hit theaters in 2022. The film earned $1.4 billion at the box office and scored six Oscar nominations, winning one for Best Sound.
Taking place 30 years after the original 1986 film, Top Gun: Maverick follows Maverick, who is still pushing the envelope as a top naval aviator but must confront ghosts of his past when he leads TOP GUN's elite graduates on a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those chosen to fly it.
The film landed #133 on IMDb's Top 250 movies list and scored a certified fresh score of 96% on Rotten Tomatoes.
