These Are the Top Fall 2023 Color Trends From New York Fashion Week

It's all about the drama.

We know fashion is all about trends, and everyone wants to stay on top of them. Thankfully, Pantone is always ahead of the game: The color expert released its seasonal color trend report ahead of the Fall 2023 New York Fashion Week debuts, and it seems we're headed towards a very vibrant autumn.

Pantone's Color Trend Report identifies the key shades for any given season based on what designers are gravitating towards and the general mood of the culture. For Fall 2023, the company predicts bold hues like Rose Violet (a red-tinged fuchsia), Red Orange (a vibrant, fiery orange), Red Dahlia (a deep red), High Visibility (an almost-neon yellow), Kohlrabi (a playful, vivid green) and Viva Magenta (the 2023 Color of the Year) will take over our wardrobes, per WWD.

The Fall 2023 palette "[signifies] our desire to communicate the joy of creativity and design joy into our lives," the company said in a statement. "Encouraging exploration and experimentation, these color combinations open space for free, fun, and inclusive color imaginings."

This is perhaps a symptom of post-quarantine optimism, mixed with technological developments like increased capabilities on smartphones and tablets, which allow us to appreciate brighter and brighter colors. Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, references the immersive digitized art experience "Gustav Kilmt: Gold in Motion," to WWD as an example: "When you literally walk into a [projected] painting and become part of it, that vibrancy envelops you. That is having a huge effect. People not only want to be exposed to it and see the color more clearly, but it gets exposed lodged in their brains."

Fashion has certainly caught onto this, infusing collections with sharp, saturated palettes. (Think Valentino PP Pink or the colorful ballgowns at Viktor&Rolf.)

For the color-averse, there are some more subdued shades highlighted in Pantone's Fall 2023 report, like a faint orange-y beige (Tender Peach), a cooling blue (Persian Jewel), a "mentholated green" (Carnival Glass) and a faded rosy brown (Burnt Sienna). The company also five New York Fashion Week "new classics" this season: a creamy ivory (Coconut Milk), a chic brown (Doe), a deep grey-ish blue (Eclipse), a rich chocolate (Hot Fudge) and a metallic gray (Silver Birch).
