The Top European Cities for American Travelers This Summer

When picking a summer vacation destination, it can be hard to know where to go.

When picking a summer vacation destination, it can be hard to know where to go.

A good litmus test for choosing a great destination is polling where your friends and family are traveling, and deciding whether you want to avoid the crowds or hop on the bandwagon to visit the hottest spots.

Travel insurance company Allianz Global Assistance reviewed trips booked to Europe for the 2018 summer season from Memorial Day to Labor Day to reveal the top destinations Americans are visiting this summer.

London and Paris were at the top of the list, as they have been in years past, but the rest of the top 20 reveal travelers' changing preferences, according to Allianz. Reykjavik, for example, hopped 14 spots from last year, to become the third most popular destination this summer.

“More and more Americans are flocking to Reykjavik, Iceland, this summer, along with other new popular summer destinations like Nice,” said Daniel Durazo, director of communications at Allianz Global Assistance USA. Nice is on Allianz’s list for the first time this year, probably because it's so nice.
