1. Cape Coral Bike Night

3. ‘Heathers: The Musical’ at FGCU

The musical version of the cult-classic 1989 movie takes on bullying, teen suicide, cliques and the pain of high school ― all with darkly comic pop-rock songs such as “Candy Store” and “My Dead Gay Son.” The show is a collaboration between Naples’ TheatreZone and FGCU’s Bower School of Music & The Arts. Former The News-Press sports reporter David Dorsey launches his new book and reveals its title and cover. He’ll also sign copies, which will be sold for $19 each. The book chronicles the 50-year history of the City of Palms Classic high-school basketball tournament in Fort Myers. Many future NBA players and McDonald's All-Americans have appeared in the tournament. Dorsey previously wrote the football book “Fourth Down in Dunbar.” 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17. Free. Lakes Park Fall Festival and Scarecrows in the Park

The annual festival returns with a pumpkin patch, the 13th annual Scarecrows in the Park contest, hayrides, inflatables and the Halloween Express train ride. The Scarecrows in the Park display features scarecrows decorated as movie characters in the Lakes Park Children’s Garden. 6-9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday from Oct. 13-31. Barktober Fest at Gulf Coast Town Center

Bring your family and pets for this animal-friendly Halloween event with a pet costume contest, a photo booth, stilt walker/balloon artist Too Tall Torrie and a deejay spinning Halloween music. The annual event benefits Love is Fur Ever Dog Rescue and donations of necessary items will be collected (including dry food, dog treats, peanut butter, toys, paper towels, pee pads, dog beds and pill pockets). 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13. Oktoberfest in Cape Coral

The 38th-annual event returns after skipping 2022 due to Hurricane Ian. Oktoberfest brings two weekends of German culture to Cape Coral: Beer, live bands, authentic German food, vendors and more. The musical lineup includes German bands KaBeGl and Maselheimer Musikanten, house band Hafenkapelle and local acts The Boots, Deb & the Dynamics, A’Finnity, Pitbull of Blues and the Dottie Kelly Band. R.E.M. founding member Mike Mills joins Southwest Florida Symphony on reimagined versions of some of his band's best-known songs.
