The Top 5 Hotels in Venice
This year's World's Best Awards survey was open for voting January 11 through May 10, 2021, as destinations around the world were lifting COVID-19 restrictions. Survey rules have always allowed readers to reflect on their travel experiences over a three-year period. We hope that this year's honorees will inspire your own travels as you get back out into the world.
When Venice emptied out after lockdown was declared in early 2020, pictures began to surface of near-empty sidewalks and a totally clear canal, inspiring major pangs for all of us missing la dolce vita. But our readers carried the torch, ensuring that the properties they consider the best hotels in Venice aren't out of mind, even if they remain out of sight for now.
Every year for our World's Best Awards survey, T+L asks readers to weigh in on travel experiences around the globe — to share their opinions on the top hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more. Hotels were rated on their facilities, location, service, food, and overall value. Properties were classified as city or resort based on their locations and amenities.

All of the winners this year — except for first place — are opulent, palatial hotels built inside former palazzos. No. 4 Aman Venice, which opened as a hotel in 2013, was built in the 16th century by the Coccina family and became the seat of the Papadopoli family during the 19th century. The Gritti Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel (No. 3) dates back to 1475 and was the residence of the Doge of Venice, Andrea Gritti, in 1525. Now visitors from around the world appreciate its rich textiles, Murano glass lamps and chandeliers, and original artwork. According to one voter, it's an "extraordinary hotel." Another reader concurred, calling it an "amazing place to stay in Venice."

Fifteen-minutes removed from the center of Venice, this 40-acre resort is set on its own private island. The central building was once used as a sanitarium — but you'd never know it from the manicured gardens and grounds, magnificent lagoon views, and spacious contemporary rooms. Michelin-starred restaurant Dopolavoro is a must-try when you're not lounging around the various pools and at the spa or participating in activities like yoga and cooking classes. Readers applaud the delicious breakfast buffet and large rooms and don't seem to mind the isolation, with one writing that "the location is the best, on its own island, and everything on the island is a dream." Another guest put it simply: "Amazing."
