Top 10 Foods You Have to Try at Disneyland and Walt Disney World at Least Once

Editor's Note: Due to Coronavirus, Disney parks have been closed but are scheduled to reopen this summer. As of publish time, Disney World is beginning its phased reopening on July 11, 2020, and Disney Land is beginning its phased reopening on July 9.

Disney food is way more than corn dogs and churros. These days, part of the magic of visiting Disneyland or Disney World is trying––not to mention Instagramming––the kingdoms’ newest (and often very unique) foods. If you haven’t been to a Disney park in a while, you’ll probably be surprised at the variety, including vegan menus and celebrity chef projects. So as much as you’re planning your park ride checklists at the Happiest Place on Earth or the Most Magical Place on Earth, you’ll want to add the following Top 10 must-eats to your vacation.

Tonga Toast

No hate on the Mickey Mouse waffle, but there’s another Disney breakfast food that is far superior: Tonga Toast. It’s really not fair to call this toast as each “slice” is more like a personal loaf of bread. What's more, these massive cinnamon-sugar blocks are then fried, stuffed with bananas, and topped with coconut flakes and whipped cream. Even if you’re not a morning person, you’ll want to get up for this. You can find this heavenly dish at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World, and you don’t even need theme park admission! It’s served at Tangaroa Terrace at the Disneyland Hotel and the Kona Cafe at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.

Ronto Wrap

The new Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge land at both Disney World and Disneyland has a lot of out-of-this-world bites, but the most popular item is the Ronto Wrap. Located at the quick service station Ronto Roasters, the wrap earned immediate praise on social media from coast to coast for its spicy peppercorn sauce. That buzz-worthy sauce is also on the breakfast version of the wrap; so, if you’re in the parks early to get those boarding passes for Rise of the Resistance, swing by for a wrap while you wait.

Disneyland Only: Ronto-Less Garden Wrap

Vegan Jedis and padawans, rejoice! After Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opened, Disneyland debuted another wrap at Ronto Roasters and this time it was 100% plant-based. The Ronto-Less Garden Wrap is inspired by Korean barbecue and made with Impossible sausage and kimchi slaw. Currently, it’s only available at Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland, but Disney confirmed that “special cargo” for the wrap will be arriving in Orlando soon.

Disneyland only: Bread Cones

Some attractions are reproduced at Disney parks around the world, but something unique to Disneyland is Carsland at Disney California Adventure. The land brings the Cars town of Radiator Springs to life with adorable rides, shops, and Route 66 Americana at every turn. It’s one of the best designed spaces at any Disney park and it also has one of the best snacks. Over at the Cozy Cone Motel, you’ll find that each cone serves up different snacks, from root beer floats in a literal Piston Cup to bread cones at Cozy Cone 3. Yep, it’s a cone made out of bread. And they taste like Pillsbury crescent rolls right out of the oven. But the best part is what they hold: chili, mac and cheese, and a seasonal hot wing chicken.

Disneyland only: Chicken and Lime Bao Bun

If you’re zipping around Disneyland and want a filling snack on the go, swing by the Tropical Hideaway in Adventureland for some seriously tasty bao buns with unique fillings, such as the Lime Chicken Bao with butternut squash and fresh herbs.

Sweet Lumpia

While you’re at Tropical Hideaway, don’t miss another gem on the menu. The Sweet Lumpia, a traditional spring roll from the Philippines, is stuffed with bananas and jackfruit and drizzled in caramel. Over at Disney World, there’s a slightly different lumpia at Pongu Pongu in the Avatar-themed land, Pandora, at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. This spring roll is stuffed with pineapple and cream cheese.

Disney World only: The Kitchen Sink

Disney’s Beach Club Resort is one of the best hotels for families. It has the best pools. It has great quick-service restaurants. And it has an old-fashioned soda shop. Beaches & Cream can do it all––floats, shakes, cones––but what the shop is most known for is its over-the-top Kitchen Sink sundae. The pun-tastic treat features scoops of vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, cookies and cream, and mint chocolate chip ice cream, and then it’s “smothered in every topping we have.” It’s also served in a bowl shaped like a sink complete with a faucet and handles!

Disney World only: Gideon’s Bakehouse Chocolate Chip Cookie

Over at Disney Springs, Disney World’s outdoor shopping center, the Polite Pig serves up some of the best barbecue in the South, but they also sell cookies from Gideon’s Bakehouse. If you can’t make it out to the Orlando bakery, you can at least try their classic, giant chocolate chip cookie at Disney. And if you’re #TeamChewy when it comes to cookies, this one’s for you as this giant cookie is all chewy. There’s also no such thing as scrimping on chocolate morsels with these because the cookie-to-chip ratio is an even 50/50.

Disney World only: Werther’s Caramel Popcorn

Snacking around the world at EPCOT’s World Showcase is one of the best ways to spend a day at Disney World. And with 11 country pavilions to choose from, there are a lot of snacks. Put at the top of your list, though, the Karamell-Küche in Germany: This candy store sells freshly-made, warm popcorn coated in Werther’s original caramel. The store is small and there will probably be a line, but it’s worth it.

And of course, Dole Whip

No day at Disney is complete without a Dole Whip. This frozen treat is so iconic that Disney created a line of apparel and accessories inspired by the dessert. It’s earned a cult following on social media for vegans and non-dairy folks, too, because this soft serve isn’t actually ice cream. It’s just frozen pineapple. And as simple as that sounds, there is nothing better than a Dole Whip on a hot afternoon in SoCal or Orlando. At Disneyland, you can find it at the Tiki Juice Bar or the Tropical Hideaway in Adventureland. And at Walt Disney World, you can find it at Aloha Isle in the Magic Kingdom or Pineapple Lanai at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.
