Uganda, a country in East Africa, is known for a few main things; its beautiful landscapes, booming array of wild animals, and unfortunately, its low economic status, resulting in societal hardships. Before the birth of the Uganda DIY, it was extremely rare to find a skateboard anywhere in Uganda, in fact, many locals had never even seen a skateboard in person.

Gerald Gose, a 28 year old native of Uganda changed the local skateboard scene in his community after being introduced to skateboarding from an outside traveler, creating the skateboard scene in Uganda, from the ground up. Gerald started the organization called the Uganda Skateboard Society, and worked with locals, volunteers, and NGOs to gather materials and supplies to build their skatepark, which by the way is quite possibly one of the gnarliest DIYs we have seen.

Tony Hawk shared a glimpse of the average day at the DIY in Uganda, highlighting how important this place is for the local community, check it out below!
