Tony Bennett's widow Susan Benedetto and son Danny have shared a joint statement in tribute to the late legendary singer.

The message, shared on Instagram, reads, "Thank you to all the fans, friends and colleagues of Tony’s who celebrated his life and humanity and shared their love of him and his musical legacy. From his first performances as a singing waiter in Queens to his last performances in 2021 at Radio City Music Hall, Tony delighted in performing the songs he loved and making people happy. And as sad as today has been for all of us we can find joy in Tony’s legacy forever."

It was accompanied by a photo of Bennett smiling while performing at Radio City Music Hall on his 95th birthday in 2021.

Benedetto was Bennett's third wife, with whom he began a relationship in 1985, two years after his divorce from Sandra Grant. They married in December 2020 in a private, intimate ceremony in New York City, honeymooning in Italy.

Bennett's death was confirmed by his publicist on July 21, with the news of the 96-year-old's passing coming seven years after his Alzheimer's diagnosis. In an AARP profile from 2021 that revealed Bennett's condition, Benedetto noted that Alzheimer's hadn't taken away her husband's passion for singing: "Singing is everything to him. Everything. It has saved his life many times. Many times. Through divorces and things. If he ever stops singing, that's when we'll know …"

She added, "There's a lot about him that I miss, because he's not the old Tony anymore. But when he sings, he's the old Tony."
