  • The upcoming episode of Chicago Med will be the show's 100th.

  • Showrunners promise that it will pack a "strong emotional punch."

Chicago Med is about to hit a major milestone.

The NBC medical drama will air its 100th episode on Wednesday night, making it the third and final series in the One Chicago franchise to reach that landmark. Based on the title, "The Ghosts of the Past," it sounds like the hour-long installment will revisit some of the most significant moments fans have seen over the last five seasons.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, showrunners Andy Schneider and Diane Frolov acknowledged that this is a "rare occurrence in television." However, "given Dick Wolf's track record," they weren't surprised that Chicago Med made it this far. Because it is such a significant time for the series, they made sure it would feel unique.

"We wanted the episode to have a strong emotional punch and pay off all the character and story arcs that we'd been developing throughout the season," Andy explained.

If the promo video is any indication, they definitely delivered. In it, severe stomach pains send April (Yaya DaCosta) to the hospital and Ethan (Brian Tee) is in tears after finding out a devastating secret about their relationship.

Despite all that drama, there will be some happy moments as well—and we're guessing that one of them is when Maggie (Marlyne Barrett) finally walks down the aisle.

"Since 100 episodes are a cause for celebration, we wanted the episode to end on a celebratory note," Diane explained.

No matter what happens, one thing is for sure: You're going to need a lot of tissues!
