Tomato-Horseradish Mayo

Get the recipe for Tomato-Horseradish Mayo.

Sorry, ketchup, there’s a new tomato spread in town. Tomato paste packs intense tomato flavor without any of the added sugar that you’ll find in most ketchups. Think of this as DIY Russian dressing, with a fiery kick from horseradish. It’d be right at home on a ham and swiss sandwich or tucked into a melty grilled cheese. Shopping tip: look for tomato paste that comes in a tube, not a can. That way you can store the paste in your fridge long after opening.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup mayonnaise

  • 2 tablespoons prepared horseradish

  • 2 teaspoons tomato paste

  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt

  • Freshly ground black pepper

  • For serving: Assorted sliced bread, sliced deli meats and cheeses or hard-boiled eggs, bibb lettuce leaves, sliced tomatoes, sliced red onion, pickles

Directions

  1. Combine mayonnaise, horseradish, tomato paste, salt, and several grinds of pepper in a medium bowl and stir until smooth.

Yields: 6 servings (makes about ? cup)
