Tom Holland To Take a Year off Acting

Tom Holland has officially announced that he is taking a year off of acting following the release of his new Apple TV+ series, The Crowded Room.

The Crowded Room is a psychological thriller that stars Holland as Danny Sullivan. The story is inspired by a 1981 non-fiction novel titled The Minds of Billy Milligan by Daniel Keys. The series focuses a lot on mental health and sees Danny Sullivan go through the motions following the events of his arrests for his involvement in a New York City shooting in 1979. His past is uncovered throughout the series by interrogator Rya Goodwin played by Amanda Seyfried. In a new interview with ExtraTV, Holland discusses the impact the role has had on him, making him reach a breaking point.

Holland said, "I loved the learning curve of becoming a producer. I'm no stranger to hard work, I've always lived by this idea that hard work is good work. I really enjoyed it but then again, the show did break me." The actor shared that at one point he really needed to get away due to the mentally straining role, "I disappeared. I went to Mexico for a week and had some time on a beach and lay low. And I'm now taking a year off, and that is a result of how difficult this show was." When he was asked what he plans to do in his year off, Holland said, "I've done a little bit of traveling. I had an amazing time. I've been seeing my family, seeing my friends. I've been playing golf. I've been going to the garden centre and buying plants and doing my best to keep them alive. I've just been trying to be a regular bloke from Kingston and just relax." The series is created by Akiva Goldsman and is now available on the streamer.
