Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have reached a major marriage milestone!
The couple are celebrating their 35th anniversary today, April 30. In a picture shared by Wilson to mark the occasion, she was all smiles as the actor proudly presented her with a cake that said "Happy Anniversary."
She captioned the Instagram post, "35 years of marriage. April 30 1988. Love is everything," leading many of the lovebirds' famous friends to wish them congratulations on their big day.
Jennifer Garner commented, "Happy anniversary, Rita! Congratulations! ♥️♥️♥️," while Chrissy Turlington wrote, "Congratulations you two 💕."
"Happy Anniversary you two!!!!!" Kenan Thompson added, Nikki Reed echoing his comment with, "Happy anniversary you two!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️!!!!!!!"
Gracie McGraw chimed in as well, writing, "❤️❤️❤️❤️ love y’all!!," and Grey's Anatomy's Jessica Capshaw remarked, "The BEST!!"
Hanks and Wilson are a rare, long-lasting Hollywood couple. They met on the set of Bosom Buddies in 1981, while the actor was already married to his first wife, Samantha Lewes. When Lewes and Hanks decided to break up in 1986, Hanks connected romantically with Wilson. After two years of dating, they got married.
When Hanks appeared on Phoebe Robinson's podcast Sooo Many White Guys in 2017, he revealed the simple secret behind their successful marriage. "We learned the secret of happiness with each other a long time ago and that's always telling the truth," he told Robinson.
The Forest Gump star also confessed to the podcast host that he was attracted to Wilson from the start. "I will say that right from the get-go, I thought there was something crazy great about her," he said. "I met her and I thought 'Oh lord' … there's something cookin' here."
