While Tom Hanks is easily best known as the subject of the hit podcast Dead Eyes, about the time Hanks fired character actor Connor Ratliff from a small role in the 2001 HBO mini-series, Band Of Brothers, what you might not know is that Tom Hanks is also an actor. In fact, he's apparently appeared in many popular films like Captain Phillips, Forrest Gump, and Sully (though, as of press time, we could not determine which roles he plays in those films).

Hanks has even collected two Academy Awards for Best Actor over the course of his career, but that's not the only thing he collects. He reportedly has a sporty collection of cars. Based on his long-in-development Major Matt Mason adaptation, we can only assume he has a hefty assemblage of the Hasbro toys.

But nothing quite compares to his robust collection of vintage typewriters. Hanks has reportedly been collecting them since he was 19 years old, and now has "hundreds," calling them "brilliant combinations of art and engineering." He's a freak for the things.

But Hanks doesn't simply horde the typewriters he collects. He makes sure some of the finest items he tracks down ultimately find good homes, sending them as gifts to fellow typewriter enthusiasts who he knows will appreciate them. And he provides one additional piece of decor: his autograph.

According to Philly Voice, the most recent recipient of a Hanks typewriter is Philly Typewriter, a "preservation and restoration shop in East Passyunk." The actor sent a 1953 East German Rhienmatall Gs typewriter to the repair shop, which he's cited in the past as his "favorite in the city" and calling it a "national resource" for fellow collectors.

Philly-area Hanks fans who are curious about the typewriter can see it, and touch it, for themselves, as the shop is making it open to customers as part of their "Please Touch Museum of Typewriters" during normal business hours.
