As an offseason filled with speculation begins to come to a climax, Quarterback Tom Brady has announced in a post shared to his social media accounts titled "FOREVER A PATRIOT" that he will in fact not return to the New England Patriots next season. Instead, he will be joining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to NFL reporters Adam Schefter and Jeff Darlington of ESPN.

"Although my football journey will take place elsewhere, I appreciate everything that we have achieved and am grateful for our incredible TEAM accomplishments," he wrote in the note. “I have been privileged to have had the opportunity to know each and everyone of you, and to have the memories we’ve created together.”

In Tampa Bay, Brady will get to play with the best weapons he's had in years. Wide receivers Mike Evans and Chris Godwin are both premier options in the league, and while tight end O.J. Howard is coming off a down year, he's also incredibly talented. Howard could possibly help replicate what Brady and Rob Gronkowski once had (though coach Bruce Arians typically doesn't feature the Tight End much in his offense).

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network is also reporting that teams were under the impression that Brady would want to bring Antonio Brown along with him to wherever he signed. Brown played one game with the Patriots last season before the team released him; he had been accused of sexual assault, among other things, in what was a wildly tumultuous 2019 offseason.

2019 was Brady's 20th season with the Patriots (though he only started 18 of them; he took over for an injured Drew Bledsoe in his second season, and missed one season with a torn ACL), and it saw him become the most successful player in NFL history— his six Super Bowl rings are more than anyone else. He won Super Bowl MVP four times, NFL MVP three times, and was voted to 14 Pro Bowls.

Brady's final season in New England came to an earlier end than most, as the Patriots were trounced in the Wild Card round by Derrick Henry, Ryan Tannehill, and the Tennessee Titans.
