Tokyo is adding a new luxury hotel to its impressive portfolio of high-end properties. In March 2024, Aman Group will launch a new brand, Janu, with 122 rooms in Tokyo's sprawling Azabudai Hills development. (Azabudai Hills, close to the bustling Roppongi neighborhood, boasts eight hectares of green spaces and mixed-use buildings, including Japan's tallest skyscraper.)

"The arrival of Janu Tokyo signifies a pivotal moment in Aman Group's progression, not only introducing the energetic spirit of Janu for the very first time but also representing the evolution and enduring strength of Aman," Vlad Doronin, the company's chairman and CEO, said in a press release obtained by Travel + Leisure.

The flagship property will offer an array of high-end amenities, such as eight restaurants, two boutiques, and one of the largest wellness centers in Tokyo. For this project, the company partnered again with legendary hospitality designer Jean-Michel Gathy, who has worked on multiple Aman hotels, including the one in New York City. Gathy described the new brand as youthful and "brimming with liveliness and playfulness."

"The space is a thrilling exploration of textures, colors, and design elements that awakes the senses and ignites imagination," Gathy explained.

Most of Janu Tokyo's accommodations will feature private balconies, bathrooms with double vanities and soaking tubs, walk-in closets, living rooms, and panoramic city views. The decor will blend Asian and European aesthetics, creating a sense of comfort through a minimalist design approach.

The hotel's signature Janu suite will have 3,000 square feet of residential-inspired spaces, including a kitchen with a dining table for six, a spacious living room, a separate library/office, and two balconies. Larger groups and families could book the suite's three adjoining rooms to create a mega-suite covering over 5,500 square feet.

However, one of the main draws of Janu Tokyo will be its wellness center, a 43,000-square-foot space with four movement and group class studios, a boxing ring (a first for a hotel in Tokyo, as far as we know), and a gym. The spa facilities include a hammam, cold and hot plunge pools, a hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber, 9 treatment rooms, and two more pools for swimming and lounging.

The property will have eight restaurants, including an Italian eatery with homemade pasta, a French patisserie, and a traditional Cantonese restaurant. But we're most excited about Sumi, a modern take on classic Japanese charcoal grill; Ligura, offering sashimi and small plates; and Janu Grill, with an open kitchen, floor-to-ceiling windows, and two wine cellars.

Nightly rates at Janu Tokyo start from $944, and you can book your stay on janu.com.
