'We're all here together': California couple refuse to let wildfire take away their wedding day

Just two days before their wedding, a Paradise, Calif., couple lost their home to the Camp Fire. They were able to evacuate with only what they could carry, which included some pictures on their wall, handmade items and a lace wedding dress.

Morgan Shingler and Brian Gobba refused to let the fire take anything more from them, and that included their wedding day, according to the L.A. Times.

On Friday, they returned to Shingler’s family home and saw the destruction. On Saturday, they celebrated their love with their guests — 100 in all — at their wedding venue, the Chico Women’s Club.

According to the L.A. Times, some of the guests were wearing borrowed or donated clothes, and some had face masks to protect against the smoke-filled air, but they were all together.

“Many of us in this room have lost something, but we’re all here together,” Shawn Shingler, the father of the bride, said in his speech. “With everything that has happened, we needed some hope,” he told Inside Edition.

The devastating Camp Fire has charred 150,000 acres and has taken almost 13,000 homes with it, as well as the lives of 79 people. Seen hundred people are still missing. But on Saturday, a wedding for two young people was a welcome diversion for many.
