'Today' Star Jenna Bush Hager Shares the Touching Moment With Her Daughter That Made Her Cry

  • Today show star Jenna Bush Hager shared an Instagram about reading Charlotte's Web with her daughter Mila.

  • Since March 2019, Jenna has led her own book club in partnership with the NBC morning show.

If her wildly popular book club didn't give it away already, Today show co-host Jenna Bush Hager loves to read. So much so, that she and her daughter Mila were moved to tears one night while thumbing through E.B. White's Charlotte's Web together. The co-host, who recently gave birth to her first son, Henry, called watching her kid fall in love with reading one of her life's "sweetest pleasures."

"My tears because of the beauty of the writing, I had long forgotten and because I could never have dreamed what it feels like to share one of my greatest loves (reading!) with one my greatest loves," Jenna wrote in an Instagram caption alongside a photo of Mila holding the children's novel. The former First Daughter went on to gush about the author of the classic. "It is not often that someone comes along who is a true friend and a good writer. Charlotte was both. EB White."

Earlier this year, Jenna told GoodHousekeeping.com just how important reading is to her and to her parents, former President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush.

"My earliest memories are laying in bed before I went to sleep with my parents reading to Barbara [Jenna's sister] and I," Jenna said. "To this day, the sound of an audio book will still put me to sleep because I associate it with them reading to me."

At the moment, Jenna and Barbara are out promoting their new children's book, Sisters First, which the publisher describes as "a lovely, lyrical ode to the magic of sisterhood." The book is set to be released on November 12.

Way back in March, Jenna, in partnership with the Today show, launched her very own book club. Since then, she's recommended one book per month on the NBC morning program, mostly recognizing works from lesser-known authors. Some of her past picks include The Dutch House, The Dearly Beloved, Patsy, and Searching for Sylvie Lee.

"No matter what, you have to have a great, compulsively readable plot. Something where you cannot wait to figure out what's going to happen," Jenna explained about her selections so far. "And, obviously, I was an English major so it has to be beautifully well-written."

As a kid, Jenna especially enjoyed Little Women, James and the Giant Peach, the Goosebump series, and all of The Babysitter's Club books. Perhaps Mila, her other daughter Poppy, and Henry will some day come to love these fun classics, as well.
